Can an at will employee be wrongfully terminated?
In California, being an at-will employee means you could be fired for any reason or no reason, but you still cannot be fired for an illegal reason. If an employer fires you for one of the illegal reasons, that's considered a wrongful termination. Illegal reasons include harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other things.
It's important that if you feel like you've been fired for an illegal reason, you contact an employment attorney. Even if you're an at-will employee, you still have rights.
